Review on The Reinvention of Lottie Potts
The moment you open “Playing with Fire: The true story of Fireman Scam,” you’re thrust into a world that defies belief. I’ve read my fair share of true crime, but the audacity of the man at the center of this book is something else. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, authors Coleen Greenwood and Karen Crear pull back another curtain to reveal yet another jaw-dropping deception.
Coleen Greenwood thought she had found the man of her dreams, only to discover that he was anything but. While Detective Constable Chris Bentham’s words should have been a cautionary tale, it’s one thing to hear it and another to live it. Greenwood’s vulnerability in sharing her story makes the book feel like a conversation with a friend who’s been through hell and lived to warn the rest of us.
The book doesn’t just focus on the lies and betrayals; it also delves deep into the emotional and psychological damage that such deceit can do to a person and their loved ones. It’s a harrowing but necessary read that serves as a lesson and a warning. I can’t help but marvel at the strength it must have taken for Greenwood to relive these events for the sake of this book. It adds an authentic layer to an already compelling narrative.
The fact that a portion of the book’s proceeds goes to “Women’s Aid” makes this an even more crucial read. It’s more than just a gripping story; it’s a call to action, a way to give back to those who have suffered similar betrayals and injustices.
In a world where we often hear people say they “can’t make this stuff up,” this book is a stark reminder that some people do make things up, with devastating consequences for those around them. It’s a must-read, not just for the shocking true story but for the sobering realities it forces us to confront.

Review on playing with Fire
A gripping story told without any self pity on the victims part.
An ordinary decent family plunged I to a nightmare of lies and deceit.
Have read similar stories and to be honest have always thought the victims to be a bit gullible but in this case i totally understand how believable he was.
A very wicked man who deserves to be behind bars.

I couldn’t put this book down.
I feel so sad for Coleen and Karen, that they were hoodwinked by this Psychopath.
I wish them all the best for their future.

Review on Playing with Fire
An older woman gets dumped by her husband and tries to reinvent herself. She’s cheered up by a crazy bunch of friends and a younger new man, with some comedy scenes.
looking forward to the next book.
